Artist's Comments

Edit: I forgot to mention the inspirations~ @_@; This one was mostly inspired by browsing through those INSANELY gorgeous War of Genesis arts...and, of course, by my permanent inspiration, Linda Bergkvist [link] .

Self-Improvement Attempt #1
Targets: Details, some vague resemblance of a background, skin tones

Lately I've been very unhappy with myself in terms of art, so I finally promised myself I would actually sit down and spend a good length of time to draw something halfway decent. The first in a group of forced self-improvement pics~ @_@;;; So hence--a random pixie pondering [insert enlightening concept here] while stuck in a bunch of oddly rendered ferns.

This took a total of about 11.5 hours....that extra .5 being when I accidentally colored one of the wings on the same layer as her skin. Oh my God, HELL on EARTH ensued until I finally deleted it (and had to fix up parts of the skin) and started it over. -____-; I'm still more or less upset with the background/ferns and whatnot, and--of COURSE--the lighting is off. It's ALWAYS off. @_@; Mental note to self to make that the next target...but this time, I will blame the two light sources on the fact that she GLOOOOOWS. >:] *mwaha* Done in Photoshop with 2 different brushes, the dodge and burn tools, and the smudge tool. The source .psd file is like the size of a half-hour movie file. O___o

Anyway, I'll probably make this into a DA Print once I sign up for that thing and figure it out~ In the meantime...I actually sort of like this one, so please be semi-gentle. ^^;; I bruise like a peach. ;__;

I think it's very nice, mree :) (Smile) The transparencies are beautiful, on her wings and veil, and despite your reservations about the lighting, I say she's a pixie, dammit, and she'd better glow! ;) (Wink) The pose is great, with her arms over the head all introspectively, and the colours make her look very vibrant, almost as if she is absorbing and eminating the sunlight, which strangely makes sense. I love the background, too, and think you definately need to stop beating up on yourself--it works perfectly, and I think that anything more complex for the very background would be distracting. I like the very cholorfil-y appearance to it, it suits is well..and those ferns are great, I love how furled and transigent they appear, almost curling to meet the girl. I love it, and I'm very glad you're trying to improve your art--nomatter what anyone says, only you know what is best for it, and I think that by taking steps to improve yourself as an artist, you're proving your determination and how good you already are. Keep it up; just don't work yourself crazy :D (Big Grin) Take it easy!

I love the transparent layers and colors..was it done entirely digitally?

I love it Marie! The lowering of opacities really did the trick is making her stand out against the background. Yet, at the same time you can't help but notice the beauty of the background. The lighting and colors are great. Yet another one of your masterpieces ;D
