fear. by mree fear. by mree
I've been wanting to draw Fear for the longest, longest time, and for once I think I finally feel satisfied with the way he turned now, I feel like it needs a coloring job as well. O_o Anyway, this is also based on a scene in The Glass Sonata, where Anden (who narrates the following) dreams about the Underworld:

This child was surprisingly fair, smooth young skin and long locks of dark, dark hair that spread out across the ocean like a web of endless black strands. Naturally. Fear would always remain the perpetual youth, a son of Death and of the Goddess of Love, lost and alone, his grasp all-encompassing and complete. He smiled at me now. His eyes were white.

It gives ME the creeps! Great job! XD

It's even better than that 80's Hall and Oates song - "Cold, Dark, and Yesterday"! I think I might have glimpsed him in one of Neil Gaiman's old Sandman side stories - moonlighting as Dread.
I'm being silly. A few lines rippling across a field of azure, with two amber stars - a searing image. Just enough

i like the monochrome color except for the white eyes. really makes them stand out and seem scary. the idea of how you did the hair is really great. i love how it looks. and that he's above the ocean is neat too.

fear fits it great

The simple line drawing hunkered down in the corner with most of the page empty helps convey the isolation of fear. I think coloring it might make a prettier picture, but with less the impact.

nice work. i like how the eyes stand out
thegoddesskeira Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2005  Student
I've got to say - what I admire most about this picture is how the hair spills out. It's so fascinating. The pose is excellent, though the mood of the piece reminds me more of sullen anger than /fear/ persay.
emberdragon Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2005  Professional Photographer
WOW is all i can say to this, it is very nice and the fact that it is from The Glass Sonnet makes it that more precious. I can't wait to see what else you put out.
astaldoia Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2005
Wow... Just stunningly beautiful. And the eyes feel as though they're going to suck up my soul any minute XD
micktay44 Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2005
Wow, thats cool, I really like the composition and the simplicity of it.
If i had one suggesstion, and this is only nitpicking but that line through the bum cheek looks outa place, is it meant to be the water?

Anyway Unreal Drawing

Fear as an adolescent boy, eh? =D I love the expression on his face. When I read "his eyes were white," I assumed *entirely* white: iris, pupil, everything. I like this image of "white eyes" better with the black pinpricks. =D

And the HAIR! :wow: Not the most intricate hairwork you've done, but definitely and by far my favorite in terms of otherworldliness. The imagery of the excerpt is great, too. Where is this in your mss?

And welcome back to the good ol' U.S. of A., fishy! :glomp:

FOOG! >D I need to e-mail ye--as well as everyone else I know in the living world, seeing as how I have succeeded in isolating myself into a non-speaking hermit crab ever since this confounded editing began full-throttle. O__o Thanks for the comments, nyo, and glad that you like the hair! Bah, trust you to know where I was inspired for the empty space and "fear.". >D I admit I got a bit jittery while putting this together and letting him stare at me in the process. o___o (Speaking of scary things....."White Noise" looks good) Oh, and the excerpt is from a scene when Anden dreams about the Underworld, after Day performs an Aristan ritual which involves some weird proverbs and a prayer to the God of Death.

Anyway, the editing? >D I'm speeding through about 3,500 to 4,000 words a day, nonstop.....I can't stop actually, because I think I'll probably hit an enormous writer's block if I do. (Not to mention this thing is supposed to get out the instant I finish...) I'm almost there, though; at least Day's already at Sobri Elan. Onward ho!
Antenox Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2005  Hobbyist Photographer
Who could possibly forget House of Leaves? o.o;;;

Woohoo! Sobri Elan! Worry about e-mails later! Who cares if you get fired? Get tGS done and sent out first! :XD:

I'll see ye when I get back meself...hopefully with a few more words packed into my own mss. ^^;
Antenox Featured By Owner Jan 7, 2005  Hobbyist Photographer
Oh, and I should also say that the emptiness of the picture, with the boy in one corner, then this big empty space, then the word "Fear" in the top-right, kinda reminds me of House of Leaves. =D
dontask4myname Featured By Owner Jan 6, 2005
i dunno don't hate me but the kid doesn't look that afraid more like angry

I can imagine this fully CGed already! *bounces madly* You did an awesome job on the hair. It looks really cool yet scary, they way it's splayed out like he got floated down and hasn't moved since forever. And those eyes! *shudder* The composition is great too, the way he's just sited off to a corner. Great sketch.

Dig it. He does have a uncomfortable feel to it, as it breaks depth and its hair create the ground, its a really cool effect.

that's the best illustration of fear i've ever seen! :Heart: love it! ^^

egads, did Anden die? O_O? O_O? I like his hair. Shall be beautifuuuuuul when colored! Your book is suprisingly reminscent of the game Metal Gear Solid 3, which consists of characters such as the Pain, the Fear, the End. >D >D

Ye goooooooooooooog ye! ^_______^ :heart: I have returned to the land of the (english-speaking) living and survived a most perilous ride on the....Shanghai myself. Hmm, MGS3 sounds interesting with all these mentions of pain and fear. :D I like to throw happy things into the mix too, like Joy and Love and Wisdom and all those other pretty little........things.....of Life. Maybe Cheesecake deserves a human embodiment, methinks? >D
