~drosana's entry: "I'd go by Puck. It's the name of the impish character featured in Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (hehe, Even Robin Hood has taken his name from this character! Puck is also called Robin Goodfellow. Robin Hood's mother even called him Robin-Puck!)

Like him, I like to joke around and act a bit silly, even more so, I love to be mischievous and sneaky. I am good at lying and misleading, leaving most to believe they know me well, when in fact, they're more acquainted with one of my facades. I am a master of disguise without the need of a mask (or fake mustache, thought it cannot be said that I haven't tried it anyway!) Despite all of this, I'm a laugh and a rather good natured person. I try to keep to my manners and with my boyish appearance, most call me a gentleman! I have a flair for the dramatic and fun. So that's my entry! *tips hat and jumps off*"

Congrats on winning the limited edition version of Legend! I'll Note you with details. :)

We had well over 150+ entries combining all deviantArt, Blogger, Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads entries. Man, you guys are GOOD at coming up with rebel names. I love these! I may do another contest in the near future where the prize is to feature your rebel name in Legend 2 as a side character. :) Thank you all for participating!

The winner was chosen by a random number generator and a list of all the entries. While the winner was randomly chosen, I also wanted to give a shout out to my 3 favorite entries from you guys:

1) (from deviantArt's ~Star-Bunny): "I'd be Pancakes... cause pancakes are awesome. They are unassumingly delicious and its hard to be upset with someone named pancakes."

This just made me laugh out loud.

2) (from Twitter's BookWormLove): "marie_Lu My streetname would be Gadget (It was my nickname in girl scouts for years because I'm all about technological stuff) :) #Legend"

Gadget from Rescue Rangers was one of my favorite childhood characters. LOVE girls with techie know-how!

3) (from Facebook's Jeni Hackett): "Assuming astronomy is roughly the same (or at least the names of the stars), I'd go by Polaris after the North Star. It's a good name for a 'guiding' rebel, which is what I'd likely aim to be; less of a hell-raiser, and more of a care-taker, guardian sort. Maybe I'd run a safehouse, where the North Star parallel ties in as Polaris has always been a star associated with pointing towards home and safety."

I love astronomy. Yay Polaris.

Again, thank you so much to all who entered! I had a ton of fun, and I hope you did too. :) Stay tuned for further contests!

Update: Legend's official playlist is UP today, over on the official Legend page! facebook.com/legendtheseries Hop over there to hear all the tracks I had on repeat while I was writing the book. Some Michael Jackson, some Abney Park, some epic soundtracks....etc. Also, this week's featured character? June's shmexy older brother, Metias. Get the details on him at the Legend page.

Also, there are now two months left before Legend releases. ENSUE PANIC. The time has come to pre-order Legend, if you haven't done so yet and are interested! amzn.to/iYwLXP

----

Legend's official Facebook page facebook.com/legendtheseries has now reached 502 "Likes", thanks to you guys!

I said before that once it passed 500, I would give away a very special, limited edition version of Legend. So here we go, as promised!

The Prize: I have exactly ONE of these. Here's what it looks like. www.facebook.com/media/set/?se… This is a limited edition version of the advance copies of Legend (which doesn't go on public sale until Nov. 29 this year). Penguin, my publisher, made a very small number of these. They probably won't make any more. Unlike the regular advance copies, these are packaged in a gorgeous box that opens up into a limited edition magnet, profile info of Day and June, and etc. (And, of course, it also includes a softcover advance copy of Legend.) The one that I have is still in its plastic wrap and brand new.

How long this giveaway contest runs: From today (9/27) until midnight Pacific Standard Time on next Tuesday (10/4).

Open to: Everyone, both in the U.S. and internationally.

What you have to do: (You can enter by posting a comment to this journal entry right here. OR, you can also enter by commenting on the same journal entry at my writing blog marielu.blogspot.com , my Facebook page facebook.com/marielubooks , or send me a tweet twitter.com/Marie_Lu .)

At any of the aforementioned places, answer the following in your comment:

All rebels in the Republic, the dystopian future version of America in Legend, have a street name. (For example, "Day" is the street name of Legend's boy protagonist. He has his reasons for nicknaming himself that. :) ) If you were a rebel in the Republic, what would your street name be, and why?

On next Wednesday (10/5), I will read through all the entries and pick a random winner.

Have fun! Looking forward to hearing your street names, rebels. :)

I'd be Storm. Relatively gender-neutral, and fitting. Strength and a sudden shift-- a storm is coming, and I'll help bring it in.

Street name - "Z" (a.k.a. Zelda Annalise T. Pennington); my character's name for the Legend: Dystopia game on Facebook. Why? I like to keep things simple. Plus, it makes an awesome signature; worked well for another guy that had a problem with authority.

To me, when I think of a rebellion, I think of underdogs, and I have a great natural love for underdogs. I think that people fighting in a rebellion do so in order to achieve something better, often without ever seeing it themselves. I believe the greatest treasure to any individual in a rebellion is hope, that the people draw their strength from hope. I'm not pretentious enough to call myself Hope, which would infer that I alone could do more than a group, but I do believe my street name should come from a source that inspires great hope in me.

As such, I have chosen Star as my street name, because every time I look at a night sky full of stars, I am reminded of what great beauty there is in this world, and how great it really can be.

I thought long and hard about this, and think my street name would be Tierra. I've managed to trace my roots back to Spain despite having a rather large portion of my family as Italian, and now work as a translator who is fluent in Spanish and I've fallen in love with the language. It might as well have been my first language.

"Tierra" in Spanish means "earth" or "land", which fits me because whenever I feel overwhelmed or stressed out I always turn to nature to help me relax. I have always felt more at home outside, especially in the woods or near the ocean.

Lurker would have to be my name if I were a rebel in the Republic.

Why?

Because I tend to lurk places until I'm needed, in which case I seem to show up out of nowhere. I'm a pretty confrontational person, but I like to just sit back and watch. Often times I instigate something and then just lurk in the background and see the results, giggling to myself. ...That makes me sound like more of a jerk than I really am XD;

I believe my street name would have to be Rose, something delicate but deadly, and sometimes a little too daring. I have often been described as a porcelain doll, delicate and innocent looking, but then there's this creepy dark bit in me that makes me more like a marionette, and what better name for a Victorian era children's toy than Rose.... Also I'm the girl who told her teacher she was like a fox, and upon questioning as to why, answered "because I'm foxy" finishing with an awkwardly suggestive wink before stuttering and yelling that whales are awesome......

I think I'd probably go by Scout. It's a reference to one of my favourite books, To Kill a Mockingbird.
I chose this name because the character Scout is a really strong character, yet still holds her innocense. She makes it through the whole book, and all the turmoil in her life in one piece, yet she is still is pure enough to hold out a hand to a man who needs it.
It's something I aspire in life. To be strong, yet a good person, and I think it's reflected in that name.

That and my kitty cat's named Jem so it just works yo : )

My street name? hm... I believe I'd go by Ink, something short and easy to remember. I'm a writer and artist at heart, so a big part of who I am comes out on a nice blank sheet of paper. Ink is also dark which reflects my more sarcastic and blunt side that many don't take kindly to. Contrasting it to pencil, ink is permanent and unyielding, rather stubborn, quite like I am.

XC gotta think of something....

I'd be Minotaur, mainly because if I'm rebelling against something, which I can do a lot, I can get very bull-headed (get it? *Pa-dum, pish!) and stubborn about it. usually when I have my sights set for something, I don't let anything sway me from my goal, especially if I'm passionate about it.

I would call myself Squidly.
If you think about it, it indicates that I am not only highly intelligent, intimidating and adept at problem solving, but that I'm also a little mad. It sounds all cute and whatnot, but no one would be terribly surprised to find me dancing in an alleyway singing songs about how the Republic should be made of pancakes.

My street name would be Lynx. The pronunciation has a deceptive, dark quality, which I think suits my personality pretty well (and sounds pretty kickass for a rebel), and plus I've always been of the opinion that I was a cat in a former life. Someone named Lynx would be damn good at sneaking around and causing chaos. :D

My street name would be Raven. Not because I have black hair and dark eyes, but because I'm quiet and mysterious - or at least I consider myself to be. I stand up for what I believe in, and I'm not going to let anyone get in my way of success. I'm determined and so are the birds of prey. I'm not afraid to take a stand on issues I care about. But seriously, I'd probably just have a single letter name, like Q. It's gender neutral and unassuming. Plus, my fellow rebels could all have their own letter to tell each other apart :)

Hmm if I had a street name I'd probably go with Roadrunner. Mainly because I used to love the show as a kid and I like his attitude. He keeps taunting the coyote and laughing (meeping?) in the face of danger and still always gets away without a scratch.

Hmm... what would my street name be.... Cross. I think it would probably be Cross.

Cross could both refer to my horridly short temper which always leaves me at least somewhat grumpy at all times. I've always been noted on my short temper which will generally always get me into fights, which is probably how I'd become notable to being with.

Another reason it would most likely be my street name is my penchant for double crossing people. Not that I hate them or do it on purpose, I just often join the side/team I see as being able to win.

Cross could also refer to crossing paths with other people and being forgotten. Much the way I end up going, people remember meeting me (crossing paths) but they don't remember who I am.

i think the only other way I could think of it being a suitable name is if Cross referred to crossroads and the mythology within them. How you can make a deal with a demon to do whatever you want. I'd probably be like that, more of a mercenary for hire type which would also fit into the earlier reason of double-crossing.

Geeze, I feel terrible in these aspects but that is who I am and I can't deny that.

Yardley. I was thinking about something related to narwhals, or something fancy, but I think the name of my fancy narwhal mascot, Yardley, is actually a good choice. It's unusual and something easy to remember.

I also thought of something dark and mysterious, but everything I came up with ended up sounding like it was from Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire.

If I had a street name, mine would be Dove. I love these birds; their white color is a symbol of purity and peace, and innocence. I hate conflict, which is where the peace thing comes in, but I fight for what I believe in and never give up. Just as doves will always be around, so will the need for peace, the need for justice. And I'm always on guard, and I'm swift, just like an alert bird. Ultimately, if peace is ever an option in any situation, I'm the one carrying the olive branch.

If I had to choose one, it would probably be Grey (which is part of my current pseudonym). When it comes to the majority of debates or arguments, I usually find myself in a "grey area" between the two sides - it's very easy for me to see both sides of an argument as valid and means I'm usually quite unbiased when it comes to judging who is in the right/wrong - or if both parties are at fault!

The name of Grey does conflict with the fact that I have (more or less) perfect colour vision, and I admit to having a love of bright colours, but I can never choose just one. I also don't like to stand out - I always want to blend into a crowd for fear of having to come into contact with others (I'm not what you'd call a social creature!). Bright colours are very difficult to do this in - grey is neutral and practically unnoticeable in comparison.

I suppose the colour grey could also be considered a dull silver - taking into account the saying "silver-tongued", I'm pretty good at lying or using other mind games to worm my way out of unpleasant situations. Always have been, really, and I could probably keep a lie hidden for several years if I have to.

That was pretty long in retrospect (kudos to whoever trundles through all of that), but I guess that's all the reasons that count towards my choice of "Grey" - well, that and Lady Grey is my favourite blend of tea!

If you were a rebel in the Republic, what would your street name be, and why?

I thought about it a bit, and I think my street name would be Nib. Because my biggest strengths (I like to think :) ) are writing and drawing, I feel like I'd use those skills as a rebel too; like maybe I'd draw anonymous political cartoons that might anger the Republic or something. So I'd go by the name Nib, since the nib is the part of a fountain pen that ink is fed through. And it's short and nifty. :)

And there ya have it! Here's hoping I get lucky in this drawing. *excited*
