(From yesterday)

Have been looking forward to this article's release and am excited to finally share it! USA Today is running an article about Legend right in time for Comic-con, where I will be on a panel this Thursday at 4:00 pm (Room 25ABC)  to talk about Legend (panel is called "No Damsels in Distress"). Brian Truitt (the interviewer) is way past awesome.

Plus, see the official Legend trailer from Penguin, as well as read the first 3 chapters, at the article link! For those who read the first chapter and saw Day's point of view, now you'll get to see June's point of view too. Hope you guys all enjoy!

Wow. I picked up USA Today and saw that article - and jabbed my finger at the first line while nudging my own mom. :) We share much in common (er, and can I say that in a non-stalker-ish way?) and I'm jealous that you were born in 1984 ^^ (<3 dystopian novels!)

I can't believe I am also following you here! Congrats!! I can't wait to read your book and see what's to come. :)

That's sooo exciting! How do you think the YA genre differs in difficulty from Adult/reg fiction?

Thank you!! I think YA is, in general, a little more "immediate" than adult fiction, as in the main characters tend to focus on the now/present. As an editor I know puts it, it is a little narrower and more immediate in scope. Also, YA almost always has a main character between the ages of 13-18. Otherwise, the two are pretty much the same.

Hahaha, I see. I've thought about writing YA fiction but I just can't get the style down. I like to write things kinda wordy and it seems like for YA you have to be a little more simple. Maybe I'm over-thinking it. >>

The biggest difference is usually in the characters' ages. :) Some more complex YA books would be Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, and Octavian Nothing.

Just read the chapters! Super excited! One question though: it's going to be printed in grayscale, right? Is the yellow for Day's parts just for ebooks? Or...what? I'm just wondering, because I'm curious to see how that would work out and whether it would help with sales.

No, it will actually be printed in color, so the hardcover will also have the gold font for Day's chapters. :) Thank you so much--I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapters!

Interesting...that's not normally done. It will be very interesting to see how that profits your sales. Definitely interesting and fresh and new. :)

I did catch how Day's font is also sans serif (Futura font?), while June's looks like it's in Garamond. Not sure if you did that on purpose, because of the idea that people see serifed fonts as more scholarly and professional, and the opposite for sans serif. Definitely makes sense for the characters' backgrounds. Were you actively thinking of that?
